Careers at BC211 fall into three main categories: Information and Referral, Resources and Publications, and Administrative. BC211 is a union workplace (CUPE 1936). Full time and some part time staff are eligible for BC211's benefits package, which includes extended health, EAP, and pension benefits.
| Information and Referral: | Information and Referral Specialists are the professionals that answer the telephone and email enquiries. They require a minimum of a Community College diploma in Community Social Work or extensive university coursework in Social Sciences. Relevant experience in human services is also required; fluency in a language additional to english is preferred. I&R Specialists receive 200 hours of intensive paid training before they can answer calls, and they must be able to attain certification through the Alliance of Information and Referral Systems. I&R Specialists may be part or full time, and must be available to work all shifts, including overnights. |
| Resources and Publications: | Resources and Publications staff are involved in maintaining and updating the information database, and in processes related to publishing the Red Book and other directories. They may also become involved in roles related to consulting and data services. They require a minimum of a Community College certificate in library and information studies, human services, or equivalent combination of training/experience/education, and must be able to attain Resource Specialist certification through the Alliance of Information and Referral Systems. Screening includes testing that candidates excel at proofreading and can type at least 45 words per minute. R&P staff work daytime week day hours. |
| Administrative Team: | The BC211 Administrative Team includes management positions, IT positions, Marketing and Communications positions, and administrative support positions. Duties and qualifications are posted as positions become available. |
