VictimLINK in Yukon

BC Toll Free: 1 800 563-0808
Hours: 24 hours, 7 days a week
For deaf or hard of hearing callers: TTY 604 875-0885 (collect calls accepted) or Text 604 836-6381

VictimLINK, the BC-wide, multilingual telephone help line for victims of family and sexual violence, and all other crimes, is also available in Yukon, where residents have the same 24-hour access to crisis support, and information and referral services as British Columbians. They also use the same number, 1 800 563-0808.

In 2008-2009, we responded to 109 calls from Yukon residents.

VictimLINK was extended to Yukon in August 2004. At the same time, the Yukon and British Columbia governments agreed that residents of two remote northern communities in BC would, by virture of their location, benefit by being able to access victim services in Yukon.

As a result, residents of Atlin and Lower Post, BC, are now served by Victim Services/Family Violence Prevention Unit, Yukon Department of Justice.

Previously, Atlin residents had to travel 10 hours to get to the nearest BC victim service office. Now, victim service workers from Whitehorse provide assistance, reducing travel time by about eight hours.

Residents of Lower Post access services through Watson Lake, Yukon, and have cut their travel time by several hours, too.

VictimLINK is funded by the Victim Services and Community Programs Division of the Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General.
